I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to show you some fabulous pictures of a wonderful project I have been working on in Castle Combe. So I thought I would give you a quick tour and a few details about how we pulled the whole look and feel together.
Beautiful Burdock Fox has been turned into a gorgeous holiday home, managed by Unique Home Stays (www.uniquehomestays.com) and it certainly is a secret hideaway. In the middle of one of, (if not, the) most picturesque and quintessentially English chocolate box villages of all time, Castle Combe, Wilts.
We were thrilled to offer our bespoke interior design service to help the owners create their dream home and the results really are stunning. The brief was to create a contemporary country look, so it was the perfect project for us.
Our client was very keen to use Emily Bond’s linens throughout the house. We used the Geese linen on the fabulous wing back chairs that sat next to the cosy fire place in the sitting room.
The rest of the sitting room was designed to maximise the space and make a bright and cosy area for guests to relax in and enjoy. The orignial fire place is the real star of this room, what a beauty. We stuck with soft natural tones. using a base palet of Farrow & Ball French Grey throughout. This was complimented beautifully by the soft blue hues of the soafs, with their faux reindeer throws, as well as the large persian rug, again in soft greys and whites, which all added warrmth to the dark oak flooring.
The perfect spot for a good book and a good glass of red wine!
We also made some bespoke silk, lined shades for these gorgeous India Jane lampbases that our client already had.
Downstairs there is a to die for boot area in the corner of the open plan kitchen/snug, the ideal place to leave all your kit after a lovely walk around Castle Combe. This was painted Farrow & Ball Strong White and was made up to fit the space exactly by the on-site carpenter during the build phase.
With an open plan kitchen perfect for get togethers, Burdock Fox really is picture perfect. We love the copper accents here with the Rocket St George pendants and the modern touches like the Graham & Green silver stag head over the traditional Belfast sink, with marble kitchen tops.
Our client loved the Emily Bond Geese so much, we also incorparated them into the master bedroom. Here we designed a pair of bespoke curtains with a country-style valance, which were then hand sewn in our workshop in Herefordshire. To top off the room, we made some lovely handrolled drum shades too.
The master bedroom is very spaceous, with a double ceiling height and we used Farrow & Ball Lime White on the walls, with the open bathroom in Mouse’s Back (as well as the stand alone roll top bath which is also in Mouse’s Back). We then matched in the rest of the furniture and accessories in Lime White and our client has used some crisp white egyptian cotton bed linen to finish the room perfectly.
In the second bedroom we used Emily Bond’s Labrador linen for the handmade Roman Blinds and some candle clip lampshades for the beautiful chandelier in the centre of the room. The sanded floorboards were painted in Farrow & Ball Down Pipe and a wood effect wallpaper from Graham and Green on the feature wall beside the bed really introduced some depth to the room.
It was really fabulous to help on such a a special project. I was lucky enough to be invloved from the very start, so I saw Burdock Fox when it was stripped all the way down to its bare bones. The finished results, I’m sure you’ll agree, are gorgeous!
